Are the Dolphins going to win just one lousy game this year?
The answer is NO!
The Miami Dolphin's roster looks something like this:
Quarterback
They brought in John Beck last season and this year they drafted Chad Henne from Michigan and signed Josh McCown from the Raiders.
Starter at the beginning of the season: Josh McCown
Starter half way through the season: John Beck, because they want him to grow as an NFL QB.
Half back
They traded second year pro Lorenzo Booker to the Eagles on the day of the NFL draft. They have Ronnie Brown who is still a stud, Ricky Williams who will be a decent number two RB, and Patrick Cobbs as the third string runner.
Starter at the beginning of the season: Ronnie Brown
Starter half way through the season: Ronnie Brown, because he gives the best ability each week of the season.
Full back
Reagan Mauia a sixth round pick a year ago and will be the frontrunner for this position. He played in every game last year, but only ran the ball four times. They picked up Boomer Grigsby from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Starter at the beginning of the season: Reagan Mauia
Starter half way through the season: Reagan Mauia, just because he was on the team last season.
Wide receiver
They lost veteran Marty Booker to the Chicago Bears. They still have last year’s overall ninth pick Ted Ginn Jr., underachieving third-year receiver Derek Hagan, and young veteran free-agent signee Ernest Wilford.
Beyond those three are two journeymen in Greg Camarillo and David Kircus. They brought in Karl Dorell who was the head coach of UCLA to be the WR coach this year. He coached Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey in Denver.
Starters at the beginning of the season: Ted Ginn Jr. and Ernest Wilford, that will give them the combination of speed and size.
Starters half way through the season: Ted Ginn Jr. and Derek Hagan. Ernest Wilford is not fast enough and we have seen that in his years in Jacksonville.
Tight end
David Martin played in 15 games a year ago and scored only two touchdowns. They traded with Dallas to get former second round pick Anthony Fasano.
Starter at the beginning of the season: Anthony Fasano, because he played under Parcells in Dallas.
Starter half way through the season: Anthony Fasano, he will surprise people and prove he is worthy to start.
Offensive line
First pick overall Jake Long will start LT, free-agent Justin Smiley from the 49ers will start LG. Center Samson Satele will be solid. Look for rookie T Shawn Murphy to move to RG. Finally at RT will be Vernon Carey, a former first round pick.
Starters at the beginning of the season: Same as above.
Starters half way through the season: Everything the same except Shawn Murphy will be replaced by Steve McKinney at RG because of Murphy's lack of experience.
Defensive end
Matt Roth has started the last two seasons and compiled 6.5 sacks, but the Dolphins drafted Phillip Merling in the second round to add some depth. Also, disgruntled Jason Taylor will suit up instead of dancing this season.
Starters at the beginning of the season: Matt Roth at LDE and Jason Taylor at RDE.
Starter half way through the season: Same as above
Linebackers
They not only brought Reggie Torbor from the Giants and Akin Ayodele from the Cowboys, but also little known Charlie Anderson from the Texans. They kept Channing Crowder at MLB and have veteran Joey Porter at WLB.
Starters at the beginning of the season: SLB, Reggie Torbor, MLB Channing Crowder, and WLB Joey Porter.
Starter half way through the season: SLB, Akin Ayodele, MLB Channing Crowder and WLB, Joey Porter, but if Porter goes down with an injury look for Charlie Anderson to step in.
Defensive tackle
Jason Ferguson started one game before going on injured reserve, but he has a lot of experience just like Keith Traylor a couple years ago. Look for Randy Starks (picked up from Tennessee) or veteran Vonnie Holiday to battle for the other DT position.
Starters at the beginning of the season: Jason Ferguson and Vonnie Holiday.
Starter half way through the season: Look for Randy Starks to fill in for the injury-plagued Jason Ferguson and Vonnie Holiday stay healthy.
Cornerback
They still have Will Allen, Michael Lehan, Travis Daniels, and Andre Goodman from last season, but they brought in Nathan Jones from Dallas to add depth in Special Teams.
Starters at the beginning of the season: Will Allen and Michael Lehan.
Starter half way through the season: Will Allen and Travis Daniels.
Safety
If Jason Allen can't get the job done, look for free-agent signee Chris Crocker from Atlanta to step in. Yeremiah Bell had no INTs last season at FS and that frightens Bill Parcells. That is why he brought in Keith Davis from Dallas. I see a theme growing here!
Starters at the beginning of the season: SS Jason Allen and FS Yeremiah Bell.
Starter half way through the season: SS Jason Allen and FS Keith Davis.
Special Teams
Kicker Jay Feely is back and so is second year pro Brandon Fields. Fields averaged 43.2 per punt and was a seventh rounder, at least they did one thing right. Also, look for the Dolphins to insert Ted Ginn Jr. as kick returner once again.
Projected Record
Since they added some players this offseason that will help their team, especially the players from the Cowboys, I see them finishing 6-10. There divison will be harder with the Patriots looking to go undefeated. The Jets, at least will be .500 and the Bills will be decent. Don't get to excited Dolphins fans! It is alot better than last season.
