When Thierry Henry, one of Arsenal's best strikers and leaders ever, departed the Emirates to join Spanish giants Barcelona, many eagerly awaited his replacement. Arsene Wenger opted for Croatian striker Eduardo Da Silva.
A seemingly unknown striker to some but Eduardo was not unknown when it came to goals. During the first half of the 2007/2008 season Eduardo prove to be a devastating finisher, scoring 12 times in 31 appearances. Just as it was looking like Arsenal were set to become clear favourite for the title and Eduardo was embarking on a journey to become a world class striker, the terrible injury occurred.
On the 23rd of February 2008 Arsenal faced Birmingham City. Part way through the first half, Eduardo was tackled by Martin Taylor. Ther challenged left Eduardo with broken left fibula and an open dislocation of his left ankle.
Almost a year later Eduardo returned and gave the footballing world a glimpse of what the 26 year old can offer to the Arsenal attack.
This season, Eduardo is beginning to look back to full fitness and has worked his way back into the Arsenal XI. However, it is evident the Croatian striker is lacking confidence. The former Dynamo Zagreb striker is also quite wasteful with his chances.
The footballing world has seen what a fully fit, fully confident Eduardo can do. But since his injury Eduardo has lacked that confidence and fitness. Will it ever return?
