Here's a Thought: Nathaniel's (Extremely Premature) Idea of Who Should Break Camp With the Oakland A's (Position Players)

Lately, I've been doing position-by-position breakdowns of the A's system, from the majors all the way down to Rookie ball.

With each player in those, I have a line that says where I think they should start 2010.

It occurred to me that it would be possible, doing just off-the-cuff "I think Player X should start at Level X" rankings, to wind up with more or less than 25 major league players.

After all, maybe the A's have a lot of MLB-qualified guys; maybe they don't.
But it's certainly possible that the number is not 25. I don't know if it is.

I haven't gotten that far in the position breakdowns, and I don't think that far ahead.

Anyway, with this in mind, I decided to take a welcome break from the monotony of lengthy player evaluations to write up who I thought should break camp with the A's in 2010.

This list, of course, comes with several caveats. The A's could trade players, release players, or sign players. Someone could come out of nowhere in the spring, a la Andrew Bailey in 2009. Injuries could change things.

But if the A's had to start the season today, with the players they have, here's who I think the position players should be.

NOTE: I'm going to keep my explanations brief. For more detail on a specific player, look at my player lists (catcher and first base are up already), or feel free to ask me in the comments.

I'll be listing the 13 position players I'd like to see on the team, and then I'll construct lineups at the end.
