The Rangers faced the Islanders for the second match up this week. There was some changes in the line up as Tortorella said there would be. Changes that I was most definitely happy to see.

Bu the changes did not help the way the Rangers played. In the first period. They were held to only 4 shots on goal. Last night they were held to 3 shot on goal in the first period , the Islander had 14 shots on goal and for most of the period the Ilse controlled the puck.

However Lundqvist looked awesome and shut down everything the Islanders had. The Rangers managed to score two goals in the first period. Ryan Callahan has scored 3 goals in four games and he knocked in a power play goal.. Shortly after Chris Drury who was demoted to fourth line finally scored a goal after 19 games point less. Maybe Drury should stay on the fourth line. He seemed to play better, less pressure.

The second period started and Ryan Callahan scores quickly on the power play. His second of the night . With only five shots on goal, and scoring three, the Rangers quickly broke out of the two goal slump they were in.

Tortorella benched Wade Redden and Ales Kotalik tonight and it paid off. Although the Islanders were all over the Rangers, it was the Rangers who had the goals early and whose shot counted. Offensively the Rangers , when they did control the puck , were effective and looked good. Keep Redden off the ice.

Down 3-0 the Islanders never gave up. The NYI looked very good, you have to give this team a lot of credit , they out played the Rangers for the first two periods. There efforts paid off as the Ilse get a shot passed Henrik midway into the second cutting the lead to two.

The Rangers defense did not look to good. They gave up a lot of chances and if it was any other goalie in net , the score would have been much worse. Hank was very alert and look great.

The defense did look better in the third and with out Redden they managed to stop 7 power plays. For the first game in many the were few mistakes. The Rangers were out played, but they did not make the mistakes that they have been making that has caused them games. 5 in a row to be specific.

The third period the Rangers added two more from Marion Gaborik, and Artem Anisimov. It is such a beautiful thing watching Anisimov do his thing when he is let loose. Just play these guys as much as they can take. And good things will come from it.

I must say this. Deep down inside I feel Tortorella is a coach that can turn a team around and make them champions. I feel that he has made some of the worst mistakes this year that I ever expected him to make. Tonight he made so changes and I hope he stays with it. They scored, more goals tonight then in the last 22 games.

I feel Tort is in this whole heartily and he tries to get these guys to win. But the whole line changes and again tonight , players that should most definitely be playing more time are not. He is a champion coach , won it in Tampa. So what is going on with him now. I hope the changes will continue to come as in regards to benching players for the right reasons and he manages to turn something around.

Doesn’t change the fact that he has been messing the whole season up and should be gone. One game does not mean anything. Keep winning and then well see. Check with me next month on that one. lol.
