Year-End Awards: Women's Wrestling Style
Welcome one and all to my year end awards for the year 2009! Now, of course the awards will be centered around the women in North America, so please, no PMS'ing on, "Oh, there were no women from Japan", or, "Ugh, how could she win the award?", and blah, blah, blah.
Now, these "awards" are totally and completely based on my opinions, so no, no input was taken from other people. Some of my choices might shock you, and others might just bore you, but hey, who said I was perfect? (Me)
Now sit back, relax, and get ready to disagree.
Heel of The Year: Angelina Love
Angelina became a big name in TNA this year. She feuded with the likes of Awesome Kong, Taylor Wilde, Daffney (The then-fake Sarah Palin),and Tara.
She won the Knockout's Title twice as well, not to mention some pretty good matches. But we'll get to that later...Basically, Angelina's done it all in a short period of time, so it's a no-brainer that she be crowned Heel of The Year.
Runner-up: Maryse
Face of The Year: Tara
After only two weeks in the company, Tara had the fans wrapped around her finger.
Tara has produced some of the best matches of the entire year, even putting on a fabulous divas match in her retirement match with Michelle McCool.
Leaving the WWE was the best move of her career, and this award is proof of that.
Runner-up: Melina
Tweener of The Year: Hamada
No, Awesome Kong doesn't win this award. Hamada has blazed a pretty good trail in TNA wrestling-wise.
From her matches with Alissa Flash to Tara to Sarita to Taylor to even Daffney, all have been memorable matches, and although we still don't know what Hamada is exactly 'about' yet, her matches are enough to win me over.
Runner-up: Awesome Kong
Breakout Star of The Year: Alicia Fox
Let's face it, how could she not win this award? Alicia has proven herself to be more than capable of holding her own in the ring.
She's wrestled the likes of Mickie, Melina, and Gail in some great matches. With an ever-expanding moveset and feisty attitude, Alicia seems to be set up for superstardom.
Runner-up: Alissa Flash
Character of The Year: Daffney
Daffney has had an exceptional year, but her character has had an amazing year.
Going from that sad Sarah Palin gimmick to this demented, twisted, kooky, gothic psycho has been great! She's shown her diversity and shown it well! And she's looked pretty "zombie hot" doin' it.
Runner-up: Maryse
Feud of The Year: Melina vs. Michelle McCool
Seriously, these two women deserve a frikkin' Oscar for producing a feud with barely two promos. People were into it for the most part, and their intensity towards each other flew off the screen! Not to mention their crazy chemistry in the ring with one another.
Runner-up: Angelina Love vs. Awesome Kong
Match of The Year: Angelina Love vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong (Steel Cage)
This might raise some eyebrows, I mean, why not one of the Melina-Michelle matches? Or how about a Tara or Alissa Flash match?
The reason is because this match contained three diverse characters, all over with the fans, and they complimented each other to a T'!
All three women had beef with each other individually, and this match brought out all three feuds. From Kong's somersault splash off the top rope, to Taylor's sick crossbody, every element I was looking for was there.
Runner-up: Melina vs. Michelle at Night Of Champions
Most Improved Wrestler of The Year: Layla El
If anyone has benefited from all the diva craziness this year, it has to be Layla. She's gotten in the ring more, been in more promos, and just downright stepped up her game. All around, Layla has improved the most in the entire year.
Runner-up: Tara
Champion of The Year: Michelle McCool
Waaa? Michelle McCool? No, could it be? The answer is hell yes, it can be! Michelle has undoubtedly been the best diva search girl in ring terms to come out of the contest.
She's made her own path by becoming the first woman to hold both the Diva's and Women's Championship. Her fiery feud with Melina and now burning feud with Mickie James make her Champion of The Year.
Runner-up: Angelina Love
Most Skilled Wrestler of The Year: Alissa Flash
Alissa Flash, otherwise known as Cheerleader Melissa, is a hidden gem in TNA, and the current jobberette as well.
Even though she's been jobbing like crazy, her skills as an athlete have been widely on display.
Having had overall the best matches in the year thus far, Alissa wins the Most Skilled Wrestler of The Year award.
Runner-up: Hamada
Spot of The Year: Beth Hits Melina On The Head With Her Own Foot
Simple, yet cringe-worthy. The first time we all saw this, the only thing going through our minds was, "WTF?!". Melina has had her legs twisted to touch her head so many times over the year that I can't keep track! But still, no one has ever hit her in the head with it!
Runner-up: Beth Hits A Torture Rack On Two Ladies At The Same Time
Woman of The Year: Melina
Finally, the Woman of The Year has to be Melina. Her anticipated comeback was a big hit, but it wasn't until she was traded to the Smackdown brand that things really heated up. With her incredible work ethic, Melina set the bar for women's wrestling in the WWE, and a high one at that. From her matches, to her promos, to her entrance, everything was refined for the better.Congratulations,Melina!
Runner-up: Michelle McCool
