First off Jamarcus Russell is a total and complete bust! He will never be a good NFL quarterback and I think pretty much everyone in their right mind knows this. Saying anymore about that would be beating a dead horse.
Bruce Gradkowski has come into the lineup and led us to 2 big wins over Division leading Cincinnati and the desperate to win at home Pittsburgh Steelers. Winning two out of three games as starter in the bottom end of a miserable season has given the Raider players a jump start of new energy and the Raider Nation a new hope for the future. Now the Rant!
Bruce Gradkowski (quickly dubbed Bruce Almighty by Greg Pappas of the Oakland Raiders radio network), has already been overlooked as the franchise quarterback we have been waiting for. We have a lot of people,... fans, fellow writers who praise him for what he's done then start talking about what quarterback we should draft next year. WTF? Can someone explain this to me?
Has Bruce not done what we want a Raider quarterback to do? Three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat a desperate Steelers team in their own house is not good enough? Scrambling out of the pocket to avoid the rush and make the play isn't cutting it? Throwing a catchable ball to the wide receivers in stride for a good run after the catch not what we want? A 79 yard pass and catch for a touchdown not long enough? Holding himself and his team-mates responsible for their play not what he's supposed to do? Just Win Baby mean anything? Inspiring the whole team to step up and play better a pointless exercise? Having the ability to understand the playbook, read defenses, check down to his second and third receivers and actually make the play not professional enough?
Bruce Almighty has led us to 2 big come from behind victories against two very tough teams. Two wins out of three games translates to a 12-4 record over a 16 game season, the AFC West division title, and probably home field advantage for the first playoff game! Is this not what we have been dying for? To top it all off he was only drafted in 2006 by Tampa Bay and could be our franchise quarterback for years!
True, he is a young quarterback who struggled through the first couple years of his NFL life, was benched, and left for dead. He has since done everything he could do to be ready for the chance to comeback and prove himself. He has matured and is a true leader now that he is the starter. He appreciates his situation and is making the most of it! Stop talking about drafting Locker, McCoy, Tim Tebow and the rest. Let go of your wish that we had Jeff Garcia for crying out loud! Bruce Gradkowski is a younger, stronger, faster and more inspiring version of the scrambling Garcia if you haven't noticed. He is the real version of the true Raider Quarterback.
Why look for a franchise quarterback when we already have one?
