So, here we are at the tail end of the Winter Meetings, and what have we learned?

Well, apparently Omar and the rest of the Front Office Mafia REALLY think that the Mets need to upgrade the catcher position. Chris Coste, Henry Blanco AND an offer to Bengie Molina? Seriously? Do we really need 5 players on the roster with major league experience at catcher?

Also, a formal offer to Jason Bay. Now, if this was five years ago, maybe, but can a guy who is not exactly Ty Cobb out in the field handle the vast expanse that is Citi Field’s left pasture? Maybe they are using this as leverage with Boras against Matt Holliday, we can’t be sure, but this is puzzling to anyone who watches defense. Add to that the fact that Mike Francesa of WFAN in NYC like the move and as a Met fan you have to be scared to death. Bay has also had some injury problems that should raise some red flags.

Reports are that Met ticket packages are not exactly flying out the window, so the fans are speaking with the only thing that the Wilpon’s listen to: cold, hard, green cash. Interesting that the unnamed Mets source Bart Hubbuch twittered about in the Post said that Met fans are in a “wait and see” mode, and sales are slow. Then, not even five hours later the reports are that the Mets are making offers to Molina, Bay, and in the mix for Lackey.

Anyone else surprised?
