After newly acquired punter Duncan O'Mahony's first training camp day with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was over, it seems the kicking situation may be figured out. After practice was over, Doug Berry seemed confident in O'Mahony's kicking abilities. O'Mahony seems to be sure of his position on the team.
"I’m here to play football,” said O’Mahony. “I’ve been in two Grey Cups. I’ve done everything I can as a punter and a kicker. I’m excited; this is my first time playing for an Eastern team. I’m here to punt and that’s what I’m focusing on right now."
Doug Berry seems to have his mind close to made up on kicking positions. Berry's plan is to use O'Mahony as a punter only and either Alexis Serna or Brian Monroe as the team''s field goal kicker.
Barry has said that Alexis is able to kick with great distance and strength, as well as the ability to make the kick on a bad snap. Brian Monroe also has a strong kicking ability. It seems that either kicker could do the job. However, Alexis does have an advantage in the skill of handling bad snaps.
Coach Doug Berry has confirmed that Monroe will see his first action on Thursday in preseason action against the Montreal Alouettes. Serna will also be kicking said Berry. No word yet on whether Duncan O'Mahony will be punting, but chances are that we will see our newest Winnipeg Blue Bomber in action on Thursday night.
