Doug Randolph Named Bobby Labonte's Crew Chief

Horn FanSenior Writer IDecember 8, 2009

TRG Motorsports announced early today that Doug Randolph will be the new crew chief for Bobby Labonte and the No. 71 TRG Cup team.

Back in 2007, Randolph and Labonte worked together at Petty Enterprises for a short period of time (August to November), and had some strong finishes.

Their first two races together were two Top-10 finishes, and both are happy to be back together working together again at TRG.

Randolph most recently crew chiefed at RCR, finishing the season with The No. 07 after starting the season with the No. 29 in the Nationwide Series.

He got his start in Cup some 22-years-ago working for Hall of Famer Junior Johnson. He also has worked for Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Bill Davis Racing.

"I'm excited to get started working with TRG. The new job is a challenge, the opportunity to work with Bobby again, and gives us the opportunity to bring that 'David-vs-Goliath' story to life," Randolph said.

Randolph makes a nice addition to TRG, not only having worked previously with Labonte, but also with several of the No. 71 crew members, and it should show up with the team performance on the track.

I like the addition of Randolph as Labonte crew chief. He brings positive attitude, experience to the young team but I also love a crew chief like Labbe that gets dirty with their crew turning wrenches.

Time will tell if this was the right move to bring in Randolph or if they just stayed the course with Slugger Labbe as crew chief.
