A long time CFL pre-season rivalry will be renewed on Thursday night. That's when the Edmonton Eskimos play host to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in an almost annual tradition.
The Riders, who are scheduled to board the plane at noon today, will leave behind injured players as well as some key components of its 2007 Grey Cup championship team. Staying home are: CB James Johnson, RB Wes Cates, OL Wayne Smith, OL Gene Makowsky, SB Andy Fantuz, RB Neal Hughes, WR Corey Grant, and DL Scott Schultz.
Also making the trip, but not likely to see action, is starting QB Marcus Crandell. That is because head coach Ken Miller doesn't want to take any chances of his lead pivot falling to injury so early in the 08' campaign.
Darian Durant and former Eskimo, Steven Jyles, will likely split time in quarters one through three for the final tune-up of the pre-season. Drew Tate who has missed a lot of his repetitions due to a sore shoulder, will have the fourth quarter, leaving Regina product Teale Orban odd-man out.
Kickoff is 7PM at Commonwealth Stadium. Both clubs hook up in Regina one week later to kick off the 08' season.
