NFL, Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo, Troy Aikman, Rankings/List

With a gun to my head, I'd choose Tony Romo.

I typed "Troy Aikman" the first time, but my argument was that Troy was one of the most accurate passers in NFL history.  As a Cowboys fan though, I don't want accuracy.  I don't want efficiency.  I want a gun-slinger.  I want "Dandy" Don Meredith, Roger "the Dodger" Staubach, and Tony Romo.

I want the guy who calls for the original "Hail Mary."  I want the guy who turns a 20 yard bad snap into an additional 10 yard loss and then a 35 yard scramble for a first down.  I want to root for a hero who scares me just a little bit.  I want to root for the guy who takes a weekend off to go to Mexico with his celebrity girlfriend.

I guess what I'm saying is that with a gun to my head, I'd follow the guy who seems more like I might be if I were in his shoes.  Tony Romo is the guy who seems like he's playing with someone else's money and enjoying his 15 minutes of fame (ripoff from the Sports Guy).

Troy Aikman was the most successful quarterback in a great line of QBs in Dallas, but I gotta go with Romo.  What about you?

  1. ugggghhh! That's a tough one! I love my Roger, Troy and Tony. I became a fan with Roger at the helm. I was 7 years old and I remember taking notes on the games. We used to drive to Love Field Airport in the 70's to meet them as they came back from away games. We would stand at the fence and welcome them back win or lose. They waved at us or sometimes gave autographs.

If I had to choose, though, it would be really close between Troy and Tony. I think it would be Tony for many of the same reasons you have. The best thing about him other than his talent, is his genuine love of the game. He's still fresh enough to enjoy it and be humble. And his dimples!!!

    I'm glad you're not the lady-friend. I'm very jealous of her. :)

    1. Great comments! Thanks for reading!

  2. I grew up watching Roger in the 70's, Danny in the 80's, and Troy in the 90's. What do those have in common? They won playoff games or Super Bowls.

Do I like Romo? Yes, I do. I hope he will be the one to bring us a championship very soon. He has only a season and a half under him and he has done very well.

I would have to go with Troy with his accuracy. He had probably one of the best offensive lines to block for him, so he could get the ball out in time.

    1. Yeah, if Romo doesn't win a playoff game (at the very least) soon, my argument looks very stupid.

  3. I like this series, good job and keep up the good writing!

    1. Thanks a lot for the support! Let me know if you have any ideas you want me to look at.

  4. i guess this is supposed to be some sort of disrespectful thing or something huh? not to be combative or anything but i think youre not giving tony romo enough credit. he set a new record in 2007 for touchdowns thrown by dallas cowboy qaurterbacks in a single season with 36 td passes and also rushed for 4,211 yards. aikmans best td total in a season was 23 and staubach 27. romo in his second season of playing actively for dallas has scored 36! not only is that superior to aikman or staubachs total but it beats the living crap out of any ones touchdown total now other than tom brady. he is simply the best qb in the nfc and if he was in the afc hed still be stiff competition for rivers. roethlisberger. or peyton manning. a lot of people say he hasnt won a playoff game yet when hes only had 2 tries and if patrick crayton could have held onto the football he would have won his first against the giants this year. here are some victories romo has assembled troughout the last 2 years. 21-14 defeating the indianopalas colts. 38-10 defeating the tampa bay bucaneers. 45-35 defeating the giants. 45-14 defeating the titans. 31-20 defeating the giants. 37-27 defeating the green bay packers. 24-14 defeating the vikings. 38-17 defeating the eagles. the cowboys got trounced by the eagles before they had romo. hes already been to two pro bowls and led his team this year to 13-3 first place in the nfc east and hes only in his mid 20s for those of you saying hes overated like please!

    1. Huh? I chose Romo. I won't back down from stating that he's enjoying the celebrity lifestyle, who wouldn't want to do that? Your arguement is great, but it leaves out the only thing that matters here: Aikman 3 Super Bowl wins, Romo 0 playoff wins. Tony's only two years into starting, so I know it's not fair to compare those numbers, but that's the standard by which he will be judged.
