This will be a new series that I am launching that will take a completely speculative look at trades the Rangers and other teams around the league can make to improve their teams. I must also note that these proposals are my complete speculation and are not based on any inside information.
Joe Corvo ($2.625) (D)
Ray Whitney ($3.550) (LW)
Andrew Alberts ($1.050) (D)
Total Salary: $7.225 million
Michal Rozsival ($5.000) (D)
Chris Higgins ($2.250) (LW)
2nd Round Pick
Total Salary: $7.250 million
Analysis: After a disastrous start to the season, playoffs hopes may already be over for the Carolina Hurricanes. This trade proposal consists of Ray Whitney, who is 37 years old and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He is one of their more pricey contracts and with a team destined for the bottom of the pack, he will most likely be dealt at or before the deadline this season. He has also put up average numbers with six goals and nine assists. Could he be the missing piece to the Rangers top line that has not had a consistent left wing yet this season?
Next comes Joe Corvo, their top offensive-defenseman and powerplay specialist. However, none of that has shown this season as his numbers have been dismal at best. Three goals and eight assists is all he has been able to put up. Looks like a change of scenery could do him well and the Rangers could use a powerplay quarterback for their second unit that has yet to score a goal this season. He is also a free agent at year's end. Andrew Alberts, who has one year remaining on his contract, would become the Rangers much needed seventh defenseman.
