Taking after the success of the big club, the Lowell Devils end up tied for 1st as the team surpasses its first 20 games; with a record of 12-6-3 for 27 points. The team that usually jockeys for the bottom positions in the Atlantic Division have turned some heads of teams that usually look past them.
The Devils are led by Stephen Gionta, Tim Sestito, Nathan Perkovich, Ben Walter and Matt Taormina all with seven goals. Vladimir Zharkov leads the team with 14 assists; along with Matt Taormina, Ben Walter and Tyler Eckford who all have added ten helpers. The Devils have gotten more physical this year due to the addition of Louis Robitaille and his 98 PIM’s.
Between the pipes the Devils have gone mainly with a combination of Jeff Frazee, 4-4 2.86 GAA, and Mike McKenna, 7-3 with a 2.27. The team had used AHL journeyman Gerald Coleman early in the year and he has gone 1-2 with a 4.28.
The Devils have gotten off to good starts in the past, just to see the 2nd quarter go not so well. At the moment Eckford and Sestito aren’t currently on the team’s active roster so the team will need to find someone to step up for the missed offense.
