Hi
It was coming, lets be honest. There was always going to be someone joining the CM Punk straight edge crusade. A gimmick like that there is 9 times out of 10 a follower. Matt Hardy had Shannon Moore during the Matt Hardy version 1 gimmick and The Undertaker had his Minstry of Darkness.
I have spent the last few weeks trying to work out who would join the CM Punk world. My money wasn't on Festus I thought he would be on the chopping block. When tag teams split especially in the last couple of years the "best in their future endeavours" letter comes soon after it.
The break that Festus had increased my suspicion that he was next to be gone. However just as I was about to write the Festus obituary we see a new development. The debut of Luke Gallows.
I think this is a master stroke from the creative team. Vince must of wanted to keep Drew Hankinson (real name) in the WWE. However with Festus how do you turn him from the so called corn fed colossus into someone who could actually be taken at all seriously.
They needed to think of a reason to try and explain away the strange behaviour from before. If they didn't it would have left a huge blackhole of information. Wrestling is a lot of story and it would of just left a huge gap. It would be like reading a book and then missing out 80 pages. Your just going to end up confused.
He should some unique moves on his first day as a seriosu man. The final two moves he did on Matt Hardy I had never ever seen done before. The first one looked strange but it did look like a painful submission hold. Then that bizarre version of the powerbomb looked good aswell.
The gimmick of the straight edge follower also leaves many possibilities in the future. They could form a tag team. Yes it's not the best idea in terms of CM Punk's future but it couldn't do Gallows any harm. He could turn on Punk in the future, turn face and go on to a successful singles career. When there is a follower it leaves options open.
The first impression anyone makes is always critical. The first impression he made was fairly good. The standard jobber matches are needed. They need to really push the idea of him being a big, bad bruiser. They need him to destroy a couple of guys.
It's a big chance for Hankinson. The imposter Kane and Festus always had very limited mileage. They could only use the characters for a short time. This new character isn't so over the top and therefore has more possible uses. He really should try and take advantadge of this chance.
Let's hope that this is his big break.
I hope you enjoyed reading
