Jets Bench Kerry Rhodes

Bryan Brackney by Analyst Written on November 25, 2009
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting on his twitter page that the New York Jets have benched saftey Kerry Rhodes in favor of Eric Smith. Rhodes has not recorded a sack, interception, or forced fumble in 2009.

Rhodes signed a five year $33 million dollar contract in 2008, and he has not proven his price in 2009. Rhodes was one of the reasons that Wes Welker was able to catch a career high 15 passes on Sunday.

Smith, who was beaten out by Abram Elan in 2008 for the starting safety spot opposite Rhodes, will start in week 12. According to the New York Star-Ledger, Rhodes is the first Jet to be benched by head coach Rex Ryan.
