Dolphins Lose Ferguson, Give Up On Roth

Bryan Brackney by Analyst Written on November 24, 2009
The Miami Dolphins have a much different look on defense now than they did this time last year. The Dolphins have a much different record this time last year as well. Some of their woes can be connected to injuries.

Today the Dolphins announced that they have waived outside linebacker Matt Roth and placed defensive tackle Jason Ferguson on injured reserve. The Dolphins also released Nate Ness, who was signed a couple of days ago.

To replace Ferguson, Roth, and Ness on the 53-man roster, the Dolphins dealt with three players today, but only signed two. The Dolphins signed defensive end Ikaika Alama-Francis and cornerback Evan Oglesby.

Alama-Francis played defensive end with the Lions, but it would not surprise me if he played outside linebacker with the Dolphins. Oglesby is known for his special teams play with the Ravens.

The Ravens looked at signing cornerback Ahmad Carroll, who was released by the Jets after disappointing new coach Rex Ryan. Carroll would add depth at cornerback, where the Dolphins need more playmakers.
