Saints Looking To Add Another Veteran Cornerback
A week ago the New Orleans Saints signed former Ravens cornerback Chris McAllister. Now according to Adam Scheftler of ESPN, the Saints are looking to add even more experience in the secondary.
Scheftler is reporting that the Saints are planning to sign, or should I say re-sign, cornerback Mike McKenzie. McKenzie has been recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of the last nine games last season.
The Saints are without their starting cornerbacks Tracy Porter and Jabari Greer, and are also missing Randall Gay and Leigh Torrance. Malcolm Jenkins, Chris McAllister, and Usuma Young are the Saints other options.
Young has been used at free safety in 2009, after playing cornerback in 2008. Greer will play next week, but the status of Tracy Porter is still up in the air. Randall Gay and Malcolm Jenkins will get the most time at cornerback.
(UPDATE) According to Scheftler, the Saints have placed cornerback Leigh Torrance on injured reserve and have now signed McKenzie to their 53-man roster. McKenzie will likely serve as the Saints third, fourth, fifth, or six cornerback, depending on injuries.
