Washington Redskins' Clinton Portis Headed to Injured Reserve?

Clinton Portis will be out for another game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
After suffering a concussion against Atlanta, team officials have taken a cautious approach with Portis. After having him re-evaluated on Friday at the University of Pittsburgh, the decision was made to sit him for the game against Philadelphia.
Now, after the news that Ladell Betts will be out for the season with a knee injury, the Redskins' primary back is Rock Cartwright.
Dropping to seven losses on the season, the Redskins are basically only playing for pride at this point. With the playoffs out of reach, the best idea for the Redskins would be to allow their younger players to gain some experience the rest of the season.
Why risk Clinton Portis's health any further by bringing him back for the rest of a meaningless year?
The Redskins should put Clinton Portis on injured reserve, giving him the rest of the year off, and hope that he comes back strong next year. With a potentially career-ending injury like a concussion, there is no longer any reason to have him play any more this year.
Portis will be 29 years old at the start of the 2010 season. With his productive days numbered, it would be in the Redskins' best interests to save his body as much as possible for a season in which they are actually contenders.
