WEC Featherweight Wagnney Fabiano Dropping Down to Bantamweight

Top five featherweight fighter and Jose Aldo teammate Wagnney Fabiano has decided to make the move from featherweight (145 lbs) to bantamweight (135 lbs).

According to an October interview with Tatame magazine, Fabiano has been thinking about the move since it was announced Aldo would be fighting for the title. Fabiano felt it was in his best interest to move down in weight classes as the promotion will not promote two featherweights who refuse to fight.

Fabiano’s move to bantamweight comes after his stunning upset loss to Mackens Semerizer at WEC 43. Before this, Fabiano was on an eight fight win streak and had a 12-1 overall record heading into the bout.

Although no matchups have been announced as of yet, the former IFL star could be gunning for Nova Uniao's second world championship sooner than later. With the bantamweight division having considerably less title contenders than featherweight, it might not be long before we see this submission magician fighting for a world championship.
