The smartest academic institutions in the United States clashed on the gridiron this past Saturday at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut to play the second oldest college football rivalry series game between the Harvard Crimson and Yale Bulldogs.  The Harvard Crimson (7-2) was heavily favored as they were playing for a possible share of the Ivy title had the Pennsylvania Quakers lost to Dartmouth. The Yale Bulldogs had a chance to finish the season 5-5 and defeat their long time rivals. The Bulldogs came out of the gate with passion and fiery as they scored ten points in the first quarter.  The Bulldogs played brilliantly on defense by pitching a shutout for three straight quarters.  In the fourth quarter, Harvard quarterback, Collier Winters, connected with Matt Luft for a 41 yard touchdown pass. The Crimson was trailing by three points and had forced Yale into a punting situation on the Bulldogs 26 yard line.

I have a question: If its fourth down and 22 yards on your own 26 yard line with the best punter in the league and under three minutes to go wouldn’t you punt the ball? No!!! The Yale Bulldogs attempted a fake reverse punt. This play was more gutsier than Bill Belichick call to go for it against the Indianapolis Colts on their own 30 yard line. The Bulldogs rushed for 12 yards on the reverse punt which forced them to turnover the ball to Harvard. Harvard answered again in the fourth quarter with a 32 yard pass to Chris Lorditch with over a minute to play. Harvard defeats the Yale Bulldogs in a rivalry known as “The Game”. The smartest school called the dumbest play and gave their arch rivals a 14 -10 victory.
