Rizzo Not Deceased: Python vs. The Rock at Bitteti Combat 5

Jared RussellCorrespondent INovember 22, 2009

The sledgehammer called Roman Zentsov may have cracked the career of Pedro Rizzo into a million pieces, forcing the Rock to retire from the big leagues and into a purgatory of small shows and small paychecks.

But if there is any fighter who has retired into the unknown more than Rizzo, it would have to be Valentijn Overeem.

Overeem has been eclipsed by the career of his brother, Alistair, and was once a well-respected heavyweight submission specialist.

Overeem, has had his fair shares of problems, in fact compared to Rizzo's even more so. Overeem after his career in PRIDE came to an end in 2002 would go on to lose multiple fights.

This December, the two fighters will be squaring off at Bitteti Combat 5 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. An event overshadowed by its lack of name recognition but could prove to be better than expected.

Filled with former MMA superstars the and some unknowns the event should intrigue the most hardcore of fans.

According to Tatame.com, not only is Overeem and Rizzo both on the card but also cult hero Jeff Monson vs the heavy handed Glover Teixeira.

Former Strikeforce fighter Murilo "Ninja" Rua also will be fighting against Golden Glory fighter Jason Jones and journey man Travis Wiuff will be fighting against a Brazillian unknown.

The show may not be well known but it could be very interesting and for the MMA enthusiast could be something to watch if you're tired of the glitz and glam of the UFC.
