Penguins File for Arbitration with Fleury

Mikey TolvoCorrespondent IJune 13, 2008

Today Pittsburgh GM decided to file for arbitration with goaltender Marc-Andrea Fleury. The NHL has decided to have the arbitration hearings from July 20th, to August 4th. This means Fleury will not be eligible for restricted free agency on July 1st.

“By filing for salary arbitration it gives us extra time to continue to negotiate a contract with Marc-Andre".

Ray Shero says,

“As a result of the filing, Penguins' fans are assured that Marc-Andre will be under contract to our club for next season.  Marc-Andre has done a tremendous job for us.  We remain committed to negotiating a contract with him in the near future."

Twenty three year old Fleury is a big reason why the Pittsburgh Penguins reached the  Stanley Cup Finals.

In 2003, Fleury was selected first overall in the 2003 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
