When the Cubs plucked Jim Edmonds off waivers from the Padres on May 15, this site was bombarded with articles screaming about how dumb the Cubs were.

Why sign a 38-year-old with an average under the Mendoza line for the season when you have your center-fielder for the future on the team already?

Well, the Cubs went with a veteran and sent Pie to Iowa for some seasoning at the plate, and I have a feeling they don't regret it.

Edmonds made his presence felt almost immediately on defense, making a great over-the-shoulder catch in Houston.  Lately, he's contributed with the bat as well.

It seems like every time I look at a box score, Edmonds has two hits with an RBI double, and has come up big in clutch situations.

Today, he single-handedly kept the Cubs in the game offensively, accounting for two runs in a 3-2 win.  The second run was a solo home-run in the bottom of the ninth with the Cubs trailing 2-1.

I wrote a comment saying this was a good move back in mid-May, and I got blasted for it, just like the Cubs did.  But the Cubs and I are both smiling now.
