Top 10 Expected Sign Topics at Tucson's College Gameday
Before I write a serious article about the biggest game in over a decade for the Arizona Wildcats, I thought it would be a good idea to write a list of signs that I could bring to College Gameday.
Then I realized that people would steal my ideas and use the one I am using (it's good, trust me).
So I am writing an article on what topics you are likely to see behind ESPN's College Gameday crew when they visit Tucson.
This is the first time in College Gameday's history that they will visit the University of Arizona. Fans will be coming waking up early and coming out in hordes to see the crew put on the Wilbur head.
Hopefully next week I will have an article up regarding the top signs seen at the Arizona-Oregon College Gameday.
10. Mike Belotti's Wife
Mike Belotti is the athletic director and former coach of the University of Oregon helped them reach the top of the Pac-10 and where they are today.
Belotti's wife has been anything but the good wife who lays low and stays out of the limelight.
Colleen is most famous for an alcohol-induced tirade of a reporter during an Oregon game. Oregon's sports information director even had to place a security guard by the reporter to stop the distraction in the press box.
It's not the classiest move to go after someone's alcohol problems but you know it's going to happen.
Also, expect some signs regarding Bellott's son who was a player on Oregon and received two DUI's before being placed on double secret suspension so the DUI's would not become public information.
(Note: This is what Colleen went on her tirade about to the reporter. He broke the story)
9. Mike Stoops
There will be positive and negative signs for Stoops, especially after last week's performance.
Stoops has a love/hate relationship around Tucson, just like a lot of college football coaches. They win, you love them; they lose, you hate them.
Tucson does need show Stoops all the love they can give him though. He has turned around an Arizona program that was at its worst and now they are playing in a game that could decide the Pac-10 championship.
Many Arizona fans had little faith in Stoops two seasons ago but it seems now that they need to give him the respect that he has earned.
8. Erin Andrews
The sideline reporter extraordinaire and major hottie is going to get marriage proposals left and right via signs on Saturday.
Fans though have something new to throw at her though with the now infamous peephole video.
Expect Wildcat students to get creative with the new material as the marriage proposal thing doesn't work.
I've tried. She ignored me more than a middle child.
7. Oregon's Jersey Design
I am currently weighing two options for signs and this would be the category that one of which would fall underneath.
Oregon's jerseys just keep getting more and more ridiculous.
Their flavor of the season is the wings on the shoulder pad design (which, ironically, was debuted against Arizona last season).
The wing design looks stupid. I don't know any other way to put it, at least maturely.
It must be nice to be Nike's experiment plant, speaking of which...
6. Nike/Phil Knight
When you have a new basketball arena, state-of-the-art locker room and new jerseys every year all funded by one private donor, people are going to be jealous.
When that donor owns the biggest shoe and athletic apparel company in the world, it's nice that he's an alum of your school.
Oregon has Phil Knight, the CEO of Nike in their back pocket. It's worked out okay for them.
Expect to see some college students show their "admiration" for the giant on Saturday.
5. Duck Hunting Season
Sure, it's not the most original thing but it will be a popular sign to make and fans will love it.
I have seen some fans getting pretty creative related to the game Duck Hunt, so it should be interesting to see what comes from that.
I expect to see some fans dressed in hunting attire; orange vest, camo gear, shotgun (fake obviously) and to complete the outfit, a duck call.
4. Lee Corso
The College Gameday personality famous for putting the mascot head on at the end of the show should get it pretty good from Wildcat fans.
Last week he made the none to popular pick of Cal beating Arizona. He was right but the wounds are still fresh.
He seems to always pick against the Wildcats whenever he gets a chance.
Maybe he is still bitter after 36 years. Arizona beat his Indiana coached team twice in the only times they met.
3. Chip Kelly
The Oregon head coach should get a rough time as coaches are always the target of signs on College Gameday.
Kelly has two main ways to be made fun of via sign. His flip-flopping with the LeGarrette Blount situation and the check.
Most everyone knows about the Blount situation. He got suspended for the year but is now able to play.
He met "certain requirements" in order to get back with the team, whatever that means.
If you are a first year head coach you need to set an example of your players and there was no better way to do that than with Blount. This situation will be his legacy.
The check situation happened like this.
A fan was upset about going and seeing the Ducks lose at Boise State. He sent an invoice to Kelly and about a week later got a check in the mail for the amount from the coach.
The fan didn't cash the check and sent it back to the coach. After that performance, the check would have been in my bank account.
There will be a lot of signs about our rivals to the north.
The only question is where do you start with them?
Players being arrested, having their parents complain to coaches about playing time, going to school to learn how to read, the list goes on and on. (OK, one of those isn't true. I'm sure ASU players know how to read, I mean they have to, right?)
The ASU-Arizona rivalry is an underrated one where there is legitimate hate between the schools.
I am expecting that hate to flow over into the College Gameday scene.
(For the record, the handsome young man in the picture is me at last year's ASU-Arizona rivalry game. Cats won 31-10 if you forgot)
1. LeGarrette Blount
I couldn't find any pictures of LeGarrette Blount punching in our database so him being escorted off the field will have to do.
What can you really say Blount that hasn't been said. He trash talked, got beat, then tried to beat up the town of Boise.
This might be the easiest/hardest sign to make. Everyone will be trying to be the funniest/cruelest so it will be nice to see who makes the best sign regarding Blount.
It should be even more interesting if he plays in the game.
