Ottawa Senators: Top Five Early Season Surprises
Things haven't gone great for the Senators as of late. With just one regulation win in the past 10 games, the team has stumbled after a strong start.
Seems to me like this would be a good time to countdown the top five pleasant surprises for the Ottawa Senators this season.
We could all use a pick-me-up right about now.
No. 5 Shean Donovan
Donovan has struggled to find a regular spot in the lineup, but seems to make an impact every time he's on the ice. He has given the fourth line some much-needed grit and plays a solid two-way game.
No. 4 Jarkko Ruutu
Much more than a pest, Ruutu has been able to contribute offensively this season in a fourth line role. Ruutu has nine points to go along with his 43 PIM.
No. 3 Matt Carkner
A long shot to make the team out of camp, Matt Carkner has been a consistent blueliner for the Senators and has come to the defence of teammates on a regular basis. Carkner has blocked a team-high 36 shots and is fourth in hits with 27.
No. 2 Daniel Alfredsson
I know, I know. How is Daniel Alfredsson a surprise? It just seems that each year we expect Alfie to show signs of age and each year he continues to produce. The 36-year-old has 19 points through 17 games and continues to solidify himself as one of the best captains in the game.
No. 1 Mike Fisher
Tied for the team lead in goals (seven), Fisher is finally showing signs of the finish Senators fans have always hoped to see from No. 12. He has stepped up as the second-line centre the Senators so desperately needed and is producing regularly.
