As the 2008 college football season looms, much media attention has been given to how poorly the University of Michigan football team is expected to perform.

After all, they have a new coach with a new system and they have lost many key players: Henne, Hart, Manningham, Arrington, Jake Long, Jamar Adams, Shawn Crable, Adam Kraus, and others.  The Beano Cooks and Kirk Herbstreit's (nice call on Les Miles) of the world are saying that six wins is about what you should expect this year.

As Michigan fans, we've been spoiled for decades.  The recent 7-5 season left many fans contemplating a fatal overdose.  But just as that was followed by 11 straight wins, you can expect the sun to shine brightly on the Wolverines in the near future.

1. The talent being brought in is as strong as it has ever been.  There is no end to the amount of skill position players these teams will feature.  Injuries will be minimized by high quality depth at skill positions.

2. Barwis is a freak.  He transformed three star players at WVU into Big East champions.  Imagine what he's going to do with four or five star players.

3. Between the facilities upgrade and the upgrade of offensive style, from a fan perspective, even the crusty alumni that sit on their hands at the Big House will start making noise, and the Big House will become one of the most feared facilities in all of football.

4. Rodriguez may be a lot of things, but any list about him absolutely must include proven winner.

I have a hard time accepting 6-6 as a possible reality for 2008, but I can absolutely guarantee that it will soon be a distant memory.

  1. doin it!

  2. Its nothing special to take 3-star players and make them all stars. Recruiting data bases miss label talent constantly, and they often miss superstars all together. Malcolm Jenkin, AJ Hawk and James Laurinaitus were all 3-stars coming out of high school. So dont be too excited about Barwis' coaching ability.

  3. With that said, I am an OSU fan. and I do hope that everything goes well for michigan in the coming years, except of course for 'the game.' I want Michigan to do well so the level of competition is raised in the Big 10. And if they do, hopefully the rest of the conference undergoes the same. Illinois and wisconsin are on the right track.
