Premier League Norwegian Footballers

Harald HarestadOct 16, 2007

When you live in a small country like Norway, it's important to keep track of the national heroes playing for English Clubs in the world's most acknowledged leagueโ€”The Premier League.

Here are some of Norway's biggest stars:

John Arne Riise

He started out as one of Norway's most promising youngsters in the small town of Aalesund.

Riiseย was quickly picked up by Monaco, where he opened eyes with his extremely powerful left-footed shot. He was then sold to Liverpool where he officially broke through.

Many of you might remember the momentโ€”the powerful 2-1 goal against Manchester United which left Fabian Barthez hanging in the air.

Morten Gamst Pedersen

In many ways, Pederson followed in Riise's footsteps (although he didn't travel abroad before ending up in Blackburn).

He is characterized by many as a more aggressive version of Riise.

His strengths involve a great understanding of the game and a delicate left foot which have brought both Blackburn and Norway many jewels in the previous years.

John Carew

Carew isย theย modern-day Norwegianย with the most impressive resume.

Afterย playing for big clubsย like Valencia, Roma, and Lyon, he settled in Birmingham, playing for Aston Villa.

He isย a complete striker whose strong pointsย include pace, physical strength, and a flawless technique.ย He is alsoย a natural target inside the box.

John Carew seems to have found his cool in Premier League.

Daniel Braaten

Braaten left Rosenborg just weeks before their big encounter at Stamford Bridge, to join Bolton in their desperate search for points.

His playing seems to have been influenced by a Latin way of kicking the ball instead of classic Norwegian style.

He has great pace and terrific technical skills, but seems to lack the mental drive that would make him the ultimate prospect for the future. Having terrorized defenders in the Norwegian league for years, he has now takenย a step up to play with the big boys.
