Here is the season review for the Edmonton Oilers for the 2007-2008 NHL season.
2007-2008 Record: 41-35-6, 88 points, fourth in Northwest, ninth in West.
Head Coach: Craig MacTavish
General Manager: Kevin Lowe
Top Three Players: Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner, Shawn Horcoff.
Team MVP: Ales Hemsky, F, 74-20-51-71-34, minus-9. Hemsky was the best player on a less-than-talented Edmonton Oilers team. He was not good defensively, but then again, no one was.
Rookie of the Year: Sam Gagner, F. No doubt here, Gagner is the real deal, and will be great for years to come. As long as Burkie doesn’t take him with a massive offer sheet (yuck yuck yuck…I crack myself up). But seriously, though, he is a great guy, and ten times better than his dad was. No one expected him to play in the NHL this year, but he did amazing.
Bust: Dustin Penner, F. After being signed to a huge offer sheet, Kevin Lowe now looks like an idiot, after Penner did not even reach the 50-point plateau this year.
Surprise: Sam Gagner, F. See rookie of the year.
Playoffs: Did not qualify.
Season Analysis: Kevin Lowe needs to start making some moves, and quick. He has no early first round draft pick the next few years because of the Dustin Penner signing, but he does have Anaheim’s pick this year because of the Chris Pronger trade.
However, he can revive his team by signing a few players that can lead him to the playoffs, as he missed them by one spot this year. Gagner will get better, as will hopefully Penner and Pitkanen, and they may be able to propel this team into the playoffs to help a championship starved team.
If Lowe cannot make the right moves, though, he should keep a lookout over his shoulder, because his job may be in great jeopardy.

Thanks for your in depth report.... truly spoken like a dude who has never seen an Oilers game, maybe watched a highlight now and again. The fact that Lowe's job is on the line could not be further from the truth at this moment in time. Many points were lost in this article: 1 The surprise was not only in Sam Gagner, many rookies stepped up following an injury plagued season. Edmonton was one of the hottest teams in the league down the stretch right behind San Jose. Nilsson, Gilbert, Cogliano, Glencross, Grebeshkov (misspelled i think), Brodziak were some of the main factors that contributed to this run.
The Oilers do have their first round picks for the next few years losing a 1st 2nd 3rd round pick this upcoming draft only.

Yes, indeed I do know nothing about BR and the Flyers. Maybe you should have been a member for more than thirty seconds before criticizing a CL on this site. I would not keep this behavior up, because you'll get kicked off the site before you even start, BR does not tolerate inappropriate comments.

Well Cody, it's hard to tell that you know more then him because of the immaturity you just showed in your comment.

Also, there were indeed many surprises. I did not list all of them purposely. I listed the top one in my opinion.
Another thing. IN MY OPINION! That is what this is about. You are welcome to voice your disagreement, but please, do it in a mature, calm way so that way you seem sane
