Jay Cutler's now infamous five-interception game has placed him in a unique class of quarterbacks who've thrown five interceptions in a game.
Among active quarterbacks in the NFL, only 12 QBs have thrown five interceptions in a game within the past 10 years.
Of course, there's Ty Detmer, who threw seven interceptions, but he is no longer active.
I thought the trade for Cutler was bad when it happened, and I just keep getting confirmation that I was right.
It must be driving Bears fans crazy that they thought they were getting a savior, only to watch Kyle Orton filling that role for the Broncos.
Now Cutler's tied with Jake Delhomme for the most interceptions thrown within the past few years. He's also ranked 26th lowest among active quarterbacks for interception percentage, which shows the percentage of passes thrown that are intercepted.
Without further ado...
RYAN FITZPATRICK vs. Minnesota Vikings
Who?
Yeah, that's what I said too. In the 2005-2006 season, Fitzpatrick threw five picks and no TDs against the Vikings.
He now plays for the Buffalo Bills.
A.J. FEELEY vs. Buffalo Bills
So far, not great company for Jay...
A.J. had a bad game in 2004-2005 against the Bills.
MARK SANCHEZ vs. Buffalo Bills
Two nobodies and now a rookie? C'mon Jay!
Interesting note: second player on list so far that's thrown five picks against the Bills.
MATTHEW STAFFORD vs. Seattle Seahawks
Oh! How it hurts! Another rookie on the list!
KYLE ORTON vs. Cincinnati Bengals
What!? You say, but the Bears traded Kyle for Jay!
Yep, and to add more salt to Bears fans' wounds, Kyle's five-INT game came in just the third game of his career against the Bengals in the 2005-2006 season.
DAUNTE CULPEPPER vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Hey! At least Daunte's a recognizable name. He was a decent player at one time.
Daunte's bad performance was in 2005-2006 against the Bengals
He's the second player on the list to throw five vs. the Bengals.
JON KITNA twice: vs. San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kitna's been in the league a long time, so that's not that bad of company to be with...
Kitna threw five picks twice...once against the Chargers in the 2007-2008 season and previously in the the 1999-2000 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
TONY ROMO vs. Buffalo Bills
Who doesn't want to be Tony? Great company to be with, Jay. Oh, wait...has Tony won a playoff game or not choked in big situations? Never mind, not so cool.
Tony's the third player on the list to throw five INTs vs. the Bills...his dark day was in the 2007-2008 season.
JAKE DELHOMME vs. Arizona Cardinals in Playoffs
Good company here! Jake took a team to the Super Bowl, but that was a long time ago and before he threw five interceptions to help the Cards build steam to go to the Super Bowl last year.
KURT WARNER twice: vs. Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks
No way around it, Kurt Warner is a debatable Hall of Famer, so you finally have someone in your company you can be proud of, and he's done it TWICE!
Once was in 2007-2008 against the Seahawks, which makes him the second player on the list to throw five picks to the Seahawks.
The other was just a couple of weeks ago to the Carolina Panthers.
PEYTON MANNING: six INTs vs. San Diego Chargers
Hey, if arguably one if the best QBs of all time has thrown five interceptions in a game, then Jay may be all right.
In fact, Peyton one-upped the rest on the list by throwing six interceptions in 2007-2008 against the Chargers
BRETT FAVRE vs. Cincinnati Bengals
If even the great Brett Favre has thrown five interceptions in a game within the past 10 years, then maybe Jay Cutler shouldn't be worried after all.
Brett's the third player on the list to throw five INTs vs. the Bengals. He did his in 2005-2006.
You know who didn't make this list?
JaMarcus Russell
Seneca Wallace
Michael Vick
Vince Young
Four QBs who many don't consider to be accurate or sometimes make poor decisions...well, at least they haven't thrown for five interceptions in a game!
