UFC 108 was officially announced by the UFC. The headline is not Lesnar vs Carwin or Silva vs Belfort. With most of the champions injured or recently fighting, the UFC will have to turn to No.1 contender fights.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogeuira vs Cain Velasquez will headline the 2010 opening PPV. Dana White released this statement about the fight:
“Nogueira vs. Velasquez is a great match up between the present and the future of the heavyweight division. Nogueira showed in the Couture fight that he still has plenty left to offer at the top level of the game, and Velasquez was devastating in his win over Ben Rothwell, so with both guys in top form, we’re definitely going to see a number one contender emerge from this fight to take on the winner of the Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin title fight.”
Not only will the heavyweight No.1 contender be decided, but there may be a light-heavyweight contender as well. With Rampage Jackson retired and a rematch with Machida and Rua promised, who will be next? As expected, Rashad Evans vs Thiago Silva will be the co-main event of the evening.
Other fights also rumored to be on the card:
Junior dos Santos vs Gabriel Gonzaga
Carlos Condit vs. Paul Daley
Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout
Even though there are no belts on the line, these match ups should make great fights.
