Frank Beamer has had an incredible run as the head coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies. But the question has to be asked, is it time for a change? There are signs that he is falling behind some younger, more aggressive coaches in the southeast. If you look at the talent level of the Hokies, it is not as impressive as it once was. This can be partly due to the numerous coaches in the nearby Southeaster Conference that are household names to recruits. Another factor could be that Coach Beamer's staff have historically targeted two and three star recruits.
If the Virginia Tech hokies are going to take that next step to national prominence they must make a move in the coaching ranks. The local fans believe that when Coach Beamer leaves, the team should be turned over to defensive coordinator Bud Foster. This would also be a huge mistake. To compete with the SEC coaches they must hire a coach that is very well known. Virginia Tech recruits in areas where the kids often have coaches come calling on them by the names of; Meyer, Spurrier, Kiffin, Saban, and Richt.
The time is now to make a move. Virginia Tech is having their worst recruiting year in almost a decade. There are many signs in Blacksburg that were in Knoxville, TN. in recent years. The ideal option to take over the Hokies, and bring them to the top of the college football world is available. His name is Jon Gruden. He is a Super Bowl winning coach that almost every high school football player knows, and he still has plenty of ties to the NFL. With that said, Virginia Tech, if you want to bring a national championship to Blacksburg, VA., this is the man that can do it.
