NASCAR, Breaking News

NASCAR is in some serious trouble! Not from fans, Bruton Smith, or sponsors- but from an official for sexual harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination.

Mauricia Grant was an inspector for the now Nationwide Series. She started in 2005, but was recently terminated. According to reports, she was known as "Nappy-Headed Mo" and "Queen Sheba" from fellow coworkers.  She was even subjected to sexual advances from two male coworkers.

Now is this all true? I don't know. Has NASCAR been in courts and handle lawsuits before? Yes, but this is a big case. I never heard of the entire NASCAR organization being sued due to something major like this. NASCAR will not live this down. Will it shutdown the sport? No, but people do read, and some will likely turn away.

  1. Tyler you've never heard "the entire NASCAR organization being sued" before?

I guess your not paying close enough attention, if that is the case or just a simple oversight on your part maybe you could have checked the records.

The then owners of Kentucky Speedway sued NASCAR/ISC because they had not had a Sprint Cup date "awarded" to them and aledged NASCAR/ISC are in violation of anti-trust laws. NASCAR has won at every level of the suit with the exception of a change of venue request by NASCAR/ISC. In fact the last Judge that sat before the case tossed it out for lack of merit.

Reportedly the suit is still on appeal but the new owner of Kentucky, O. Bruton Smith, is attempting to have the original owners drop the suit.

Lets us also recall a similar case August 2005, a former NASCAR motor coach driver (David Scott) for car owners Roger Penske and Michael Kranefuss alleged he was given a promise of a job within NASCAR.

Coach drivers, Mike Culberson and Ray Labbe that took part in a 1999 racial prank were fired from their respective teams and NASCAR revoked the licenses needed to work at the race track. However David Scott claimed he was promised a job in another part of the organization after the incident.

When the alleged promised job wasn't forthcoming he filed suit against NASCAR/ISC, or "the entire NASCAR organization" if you prefer Tyler, the suit was summarily tossed out for lack of merit.

Now as to this current case: Brian France has just gone on record in the last few hours claiming this women had never voiced her complaints nor filed any official paperwork previously making any discrimination charges.

To anyone even lightly familiar with labor relations and particularly race related issues within major organizations know these things if they occur, and are reported, produce mounds of paper and digital documentation.

If what France is claiming is true she hasn't prayer #1 at winning this suit. To me this reads more like a wrongfull terminations lawsuit that has been fluffed up by an "activist" lawyer into something far from what it should be and will be tossed into the dustbin of history by the first judge that hears the case.
