Ohio State started its season off right Monday night in Value City Arena, beating Alcorn State 100-60. Alcorn state didn’t have an answer for much of anything against the Buckeyes, who had four players in double figures.
John Diebler had 22 points for the Bucks, and his counterpart, Alcorn State's Jonathan Boyd, had 20 points. That was the only bright spot for Alcorn State during a lackluster season opener.
Kyle Madsen has filled in for the injured Dallas Lauderdale, who was out for the game with a wrist injury. Lauderdale is expected to start next game against James Madison University on Thursday. Madsen added seven points and four rebounds. He was backed up by forward Nikola Kecman who had five points and a rebound.
Zisis Sarikopoulos, the newcomer to the team, got into foul trouble early and was limited having only two points, two rebounds, and a block while adding four fouls.
The highlight of the night was when Evan Turner passed the ball to John Diebler for a three, giving Turner 10 assists. This play made Turner only the second Buckeye to ever post a triple double. Dennis Hopson was the only other Buckeye to record a triple double, doing it back in 1986.
Ohio State shot 53.4% from the field, including 42.4% from behind the arc. They also added 29 assists. This was only the second time in three years that OSU has scored over 100 points in a game. Tip off on Thursday is set for 7:00pm at Value City Arena against James Madison.
