Carlos Gomez: Gomez....No More Twins....

That's right. Our bat-sniffing friend from the Dominican Republic has been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for JJ Hardy. And you know what? I am gonna miss him. It's almost like losing Jason Bartett all over again, except he didn't have the "Gomez."
Carlos Gomez was one of those players that every fan could have fun with. To say the least, the "Gomez" raised the roof and churned the butter. He was also fairly good at the plate. He had 30 bunts in 2008 and also hit for the cycle. His speed could stretch a single to a double and a double to a triple.
But was this trade worth it?
In some ways, yes. We now have a shortstop in case we don't get Cabrera resigned. JJ Hardy has a career batting average of .262, 75 homers, and 263 RBIs. He was sent to Triple-A Nashville Sounds on August 12th, but was recalled in September and finished the season batting .229 with 11 HRs and 47 RBI. Okay numbers. Do we really need another fielder, though?
My opinion says no. What the Twins need is a bullpen. The Twins have gotten better, as in having Blackburn and getting Povano, but we need to resign Povano. We need a solid rotation and some quality relievers. I hate seeing the ball given to a middle reliever and saying, "Oh great, now we have lost the game." We need a few pitchers we can count on to save the game.
That is what the Twins really should focus on. Get some veteran pitchers that can show the young'ins a thing or two. They don't have much to learn from except each other.
