Unconfirmed sources within the university have leaked that Notre Dame will fire Charlie Weis as head football coach at season's end. The sources named Jon Gruden and Cincinnati's Brian Kelly as Notre Dame's top candidates to replace Weis.

Bleacher Report has also learned that Oklahoma's Bob Stoops will be considered for the position.

It was not determined whether Weis would remain on staff to coach Notre Dame's bowl game or whether the university was hoping that the new coach would take over in time.

Weis' Notre Dame team lost 23-21 to Navy over the weekend, their second straight loss to the Midshipmen at home.

Weis appeared defiant in post-game press conferences, asserting that he "would continue to coach as [he's] always coached" despite winning or losing.

Weis is 35-24 in his fifth season as Notre Dame's head coach.
