A top four team losing to a four-loss Northwestern team simply proves that Iowa was just another Big Ten pretender trying to imitate a national power.

We've seen it all before, but usually it's Ohio State or Penn State in the pretender's role. In the past, Michigan played that script out as well.

Maybe now we can have the Northern press writers shut up about the Big Ten and the "Big" match ups that may come from those teams.

The Big Ten is irrelevant and the sooner the fans get used to idea, the sooner they can simply enjoy their occasional national attention until their usual bowl game embarrassments.

Losing to Northwestern, a team that lost to such "Powerhouses" as Syracuse and Minnesota, leaves little excuse for the standard bearer of the Big Ten.

At least they're saved the embarrassment from having to be an undefeated team that's shut out of the BCS Championship game.

Maybe they'll be relevant again someday soon, but until then, please have the biased Northern press shut up for the rest of the year.
