Before everyone starts yelling at me, just think.

Just a little over a year ago, Carlos Delgado was an MVP candidate hitting .271 / .353 with a whopping 38 jacks.

There is a chance the Mets re-sign him, but if they don't, Delgado, 37, could be a bargain for a team like the Braves. Think of Adam Dunn and the Nats.

Also, Adam LaRoche is probably seeking a long-term deal, and the Braves have a first-baseman named Freddie Freeman with an ETA in the majors at 2011.

I think the Braves could offer a serious one-year, around $6 million deal to Delgado if he flies under the radar. Now everyone must be thinking wait a second... Can't we sign LaRoche with about an $8 million deal?

Yes, but LaRoche likely would reject a one-year deal. After all, Delgado is nearing the end of his career and is a candidate to be a bargain this year.

It is a risk, but it is a possibility.

Delgado also won't be as terrible a slow starter as LaRoche. He could be an ideal #6 hitter, who will take some of the pressure off of guys like Chipper, Mac, and Escobar. Delgado still has some pop left, despite his recent injury.

So what do you think?
