Andrew 'Freddy' Flintoff, Lancashire's pin up boy, has signed a three year contract to play one day cricket for the side. This will surely see out his cricket career as Flintoff will be 34 by the time it runs out, in 2012.

The 31-year-old all rounder, who retired from tests at the end of the Ashes series, left the international scene with a batting average of 31.77 and a bowling average of 32.78. Flintoff was a much bigger player than these stats suggest, as his powerful action meant he could strike fear into any international batsmen, and his no hold barred approach to batting meant he was always a thorn in the side of any bowling attack.

However a long string of injuries meant that his final season was like the death of a star, fading away until it implodes in a puff of dust, much like his ankle threatened to do over the course of his career.

Flintoff said: "I have enjoyed many highs with England over the years, but i have not had the same success with Lancashire and that is something i want to address. I am looking forward to being around the Lancashire dressing room more now I have retired from Test cricket and this contract will also give me the flexibility to play other forms of one-day cricket around the world, which hopefully will help me develop as a player and in turn, help Lancashire and England".
