As fans, there may only be a few things we enjoy more than sitting in the stands and watching NBA greats do their thing.
One of those things would certainly be meeting those greats face to face.
Thanks to a partnership between the NBA, HP, and Microsoft to promote the launch of the much-anticipated Windows 7 operating system, you just might have that chance.
Certain Best Buy locations in several cities will be hosting Windows 7 launch events highlighted by the presence of some of the greatest players to ever grace the hardwood, giving fans a chance to meet them in person and get photos with the NBA legends (can anyone say Facebook profile pic?).
Fans will also have the opportunity to enter a sweepstakes giving them a shot at two tickets to a 2010 NBA playoff or NBA Finals game, as well as chance to win one of seven HP computers complete with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Click through the slides to see the locations and dates of each event, as well as the NBA legend you'll have the chance to meet.
Atlanta
NBA Legend: Dominique Wilkins
Date: Saturday, November 7th
Location: Best Buy 504
1875 Pleasant Hill Rd
Duluth, GA 30096
Time: 1:30-3pm
Dominique Wilkins is, inarguably, one of the best players to ever play the game.
A nine time All-Star, Wilkins averaged 24 points per game over the course of his nearly 20-year career and captured the NBA scoring title in 1985-'86 while averaging over 30 points per game.
He's also remembered for his legendary slam-dunk contest battles with Michael Jordan.
I'll be on location interviewing "The Human Highlight Film," so be on the lookout for my write-up after the event on Nov. 7th.
Philadelphia
NBA Legend: Darryl Dawkins
Date: Sunday, November 15th
Location: Best Buy 898
2300 S Christopher Columbus Blvd
Philadelphia, PA 19148
Time: 1:30-3pm
Dawkins was one of the first players to go straight from high school to the NBA, where he averaged double figures in scoring during nine of his 14 seasons (several with the Philadelphia 76ers).
A prolific dunker, Dawkins gained iconic status for several backboard-breaking dunks in 1979. It was his glass-shattering throw-downs that caused the NBA to create the "don't break the backboard" rule.
New York City
NBA Legend: Earl Monroe
Date: Saturday, November 21st
Location: Best Buy 1531
Union Square Grand Opening
52 E. 14th Street #64
New York, NY 10003
Time: 1:30-3pm
Earl "The Pearl" Monroe is as "NBA Legend" as they come.
Named as one the 50 players on the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time team in 1996, Monroe was known for his flashy dribbling, passing, and scoring.
Fans may not know that in Spike Lee's "He Got Game," Ray Allen's character Jesus Shuttlesworth got his name from one of Monroe's nicknames, Black Jesus.
Houston
NBA Legend: Clyde Drexler
Date: Sunday, November 29th
Location: Best Buy 291 (Galleria)
5133 Richmond Ave
Houston, TX 77056
Time: 1:30-3pm
Clyde "The Glide" Drexler was a 10 time NBA All-Star and a member of the greatest team ever assembled, the 1992 Olympic Dream Team.
Although he spent most of NBA days in Portland, Drexler came back to Houston (where he played for the University of Houston) and won a championship in 1995 with the Houston Rockets.
Los Angeles
NBA Legend: Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Date: Saturday, December 5th
Location: Best Buy 183 (Atwater Village)
2909 Los Feliz Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90039
Time: 1:30-3pm
If you're talking about NBA legends, you might as well start with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's all time leading scorer with over 38,000 points (for some perspective, Jordan scored 6,000 fewer points).
Abdul-Jabbar is a 19 time NBA All-Star, a six time NBA Champion, a six time NBA MVP, and a two time NBA Finals MVP.
Oh yeah, and he won three NCAA championships at UCLA.
