Pete Sampras went into his 3rd round US Open match against the British number 2 Greg Rusedski short on confidence, the legendary American had not won a title of any description for over 2 years.

Rusedski with his huge serve had the game to trouble any player on any surface and Sampras knew that he would have to be near his best to get through.

Sampras won a tight 1st set on a tiebreaker but Rusedski hit back to win the 2nd 6-4 and level the match, the 3rd set also went to a tiebreaker and once again Sampras came out on top to take a 2 sets to one lead.

Rusedski who had one of the biggest serves in men's tennis once again levelled the match by winning the 4th set, 6-3 to force the match into a 5th and deciding set.

Sampras however once again raised his game and sealed the 5th set 6-4 to claim a dramatic victory the American went on to win the title that year.

Rusedski on the other hand never managed to upset the Betting Odds and win a major title.
