British No. 1 Andy Murray looks on course to reach the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 Event in Valencia.

The World No. 4 won the first set against the Argentine Florent Mayer 6-4.

Murray broke midway through the set but Mayer had 0-40 in the very next game to break right back, but Murray held his nerve and was able to underline his advantage.

Murray took the tennis world by storm last year when he reached the final of the US Open, and the Scot has maintained that sensational form this year.

He won the Masters 1000 events in Miami and Montreal and briefly reached the No. 2 ranking. However, he suffered a surprise loss at this year's US Open to Marin Cilic of Croatia in the fourth round 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.

Murray will also play the Masters 1000 event in Paris and then head to London for the Masters Cup event to be held in the O2 Arena in London.

It is hard to see Murray upsetting the Betting Odds and winning the Masters Cup.
