Virginia Tech-East Carolina: Can Hokies Avoid Back-To-Back Losses?

The Hokies try to rebound after a stunning home loss last Thursday to North Carolina on the road against East Carolina. The Pirates beat Va. Tech last season in Charlotte after blocking a late punt. The loss prompted Frank Beamer to reconsider Tyrod Taylor’s redshirt a year ago.

This East Carolina team is not as good as last year’s, but is still a tough out under Skip Holtz. ECU has been very good at home this season out gaining their opponents by 85 yards per game. Their defense also plays much better at home giving up just 17 points and 83 yards rushing per contest.

Winning back to back Thursday games is tough, especially when the second one is on the road. Just ask Georgia Tech this year or Miami last year or North Carolina. Well, maybe not North Carolina.

Even with a bye week before UNC, I think Virginia Tech was still distracted from the Georgia Tech loss the previous week because all I read about surrounding the Hokies was the question of illegal blocks in that game, not about preparing for the Tar Heels.

I think Va Tech is more focused this week but has a tough task covering 13 points on the road against a BCS pest in East Carolina.
