Statmans back!
Hope you guys checked out the Virginia Tech-ECU match preview on my profile too. This is going to be the second game i write about this season. I have been making videos on youtube about every game and my opinion on who the winners will be and have been picking at a decent 82%. What I feel about prediction articles is that most people do not like to pick favorites because they think they will get called out on it, so they pick upsets just for the hell of it. But on my channel its always been about the stats, you cant deny em. It pretty much lays the game out for you.
Anyway, enough with the rant. Now to the Alabama LSU game. The game the whole country is going to be watching. Match-up of the SEC west with 2 football powerhouses playing each other. Now there is no denying SEC is the most powerful conference in the nation with 5-6 bowl bound teams but why cover this match? Because the result of this game will have huge implications if Iowa,Cincinnati,Boise State or TCU get a shot at the national title.
If LSU pulls of a win they will meet Florida for the SEC title and if they pull off a win again I don't think the BCS would let a 1 loss SEC team go to the BCS title game. But lets not get ahead of ourselves. Iowa has yet to prove themselves at the Horseshoe, the Bearcats have to pass the Panthers test and TCU..well they don't really matter much now do they? They have an easy schedule just like Boise State and even loss less seasons every year will only get them to a bowl game. Boise State and TCU need to move to the PAC10 or any other conference ASAP!
Now on with the game! LSU heads up to Tuscaloosa as the underdogs. Alabama look on a roll as the Crimson Tide has looked brilliant in every game. This is a match-up of defensive giants but I have to give the edge to LSU. Alabama's D has just produced so many more sacks on opposing teams thus far but LSU have played a better tackling game, light years better!
Tigers are rated fourth nationally in yards allowed per game, fifth in scoring defense and second in rushing defense. While the offense has fluctuated, the defense has been the consistent presence that has led Alabama to an unbeaten record and No. 3 ranking. Alabama on the other hand loves their blitzing game. Of the Crimson Tide's 23 sacks this season, nearly two-thirds have been by players who are not defensive linemen. Nine have come from linebackers. Rushing specialist Eryk Anders leads that unit with four sacks. That's the same sack total posted so far by speedy cornerback Javier Arenas.
Now as far as it goes to special teams Alabama is better in every aspect of that game. LSU just cannot match the game produced the Alabama and there is absolutely nothing LSU holds on Alabama as far as it goes to special teams.
Now here is going to be the main battle point for this game. The offense. All credit to Alabama for having a much much much better offensive game than LSU which I feel is going to play a big role in this game. Don't get me wrong, Alabama is NOT going to run all over LSU but as far as total offense goes Alabama is just far stronger than LSU and playing at home offers them a distinct advantage. If LSU has to be given credit I guess it would be that they are better at third down conversions and maybe a little better receivers than Alabama but not much of a difference. I agree that LSU has had a much tougher schedule than Alabama but I just don't see LSU producing a great offensive game in Alabama.
LSU is not a great away team barely pulling off wins on Georgia,Mississippi State and Washington but the same can be said about Alabama. Alabama barely got by Tennessee and almost lost to Virginia Tech in their opener after a brilliant 4th quarter play when they edged out the Hokies.
This is a very tough game to predict but i have to pick Alabama over LSU in a very low scoring game. LSU has no real run game or a real offense. This SEC dog fight, Alabama is going to turn out with a win even though the Tide has struggled for the past few weeks.
For LSU all I have to saw is turnovers is their only way to win the game. Pressure McElory in the red zone and you might win that game but to be honest I just don't see LSU winning. Its going to be a very close game and Alabama will come out with the Western Division championship. Look for the Bryant Denny to be pumped for this game. Watch for Arenas to play a good game for Alabama and McElroy to come back with a good performance. Chad Jones is the only big target for Alabama but this is going to be a close game with probably a lot of wrong calls and its going to be a big passing game. Alabama has an advantage even if it comes down to a running game and there isn't much Jefferson can do to help LSU.
This game is definately the game of the week. It will be a close game upto the last quarter and look for Alabama to win by 7-14 points this Saturday. So to sum I cant predict the exact score..maybe 28-17 but what is certain Alabama will win by a touchdown or more. Look for Heisman candidate Mark Ingram to have a great game for Alabama
