The Mets Have To Turn It Around This Week - Or Goodbye Willie
I said the Mets would be making a change at manager by June 15th. So far, I still feel that is the drop-dead date for Willie Randolph's firing.
After the sad West Coast showing his team just put in, Randolph seems surely out of answers on how to right this listing ship. When that happens, its almost inevitable that a change will be made at manager.
This week the Mets entertain the NL West-leading Diamondbacks, and even though Arizona has been cooling down as of late, they still have enough to clog the Mets' wheels. They will be followed into Shea by the Texas Rangers, who have a killer lineup that features OF Josh Hamilton, who has 17 HRs and 69 RBIs.
The Mets must win at least four of six for Randolph to get a reprieve, and I'm not sure that is cast in stone.
I still hold fast to my prediction of June 15th. The Mets will also begin to field serious offers on players that have become nightly pinatas for the Shea fans: Aaron Heilman, Carlos Delgado and Luis Castillo, although I can't see anyone offering much for the latter two.
