Thoughts After First Action!

One exhibition game in the books, and the Kansas Jayhawks appear to be as good as advertised. It's very difficult to judge a team after they demolish a non D1 team, but it shows early strengths and weaknesses. With lofty expectations ahead of them Kansas did not disappoint in their first non team scrimmage of the year. The veterans looked liek just that veterans, and the freshmen trio really gave more thought to how insanely deep Coach Bill Selfs squad is this year.
Collins
Back for his senior campaign after not even sniffing what the NBA had to offer Sherron Collins leads a deep and talented team with visions of a second National ring on his hand. Last night he looked to be trim and in the best shape of his tenure with the Jayhawks. With 1st team preseason All American pressure Sherron seems ready to carry that load. Last night he went for 19pts and showed great leadership on the court. He appears to be faster this year with his new weight, and just as explosive as ever look for a big year out of Collins.
Cole45
Cole looked like his normal self on the court a nice 13 and 13 night typical of Aldrich. He also gathered up this double double in limited minutes. Early on Cole missed a few rebounds but nothing to startle the KU nation he just needed to wake up which he did and return to his dominance. Aldrich is a game changer and a big athletic body who can bang down low or step out and hit the 15 footer. Add that to his free throw stroke and shot blocking ability and you have the NCAA's top center of 09.
Taylor
No start no problem. Recovering thumb no problem. Taylor is the total package and judging from last night his sophmore campaign may show how great he can be. Coming off the bench with Reed strating ahead of him Tyshawn appeared ready and hungry to show his coach that benching him was a bad idea. That thumb that he broke doing his best Chuck Norris seems many moons ago. Last night Taylor went for 15pts and also chipped in a nice number of steals 4 and assist 5, sound sliek his starting role will be handed back. Once he develops a consistent jumper watch out Big12 and America.
X
Xavier showed last night that he will be a scoring threat all year. How much better could his first shot of a Jayhawk been a 3 swished. 16,300 felt relief from that in the Fieldhouse after the saga that was the Henrys last year. He looks big in shape and ready to show why he was worth the headache. After dropping 14 last night you can see he adds another scoring threat to a already high flying Kansas team. One thing I would like to see more from X is his ability to get in the open court and attack the rim, he can do it just didnt showcase it last night. Look for a 1 and done year from X kid is that talneted.
Elijah Johnson and Thomas Robinson
These 2 are amazing athletes and their presence will be flet this year. Johnson dropped in 9 pts and already got himself a sportscenter top 10 play thanks to his fellwo freshmen X. That highlight oop will be one of many to come, Self himself said EJ is just simply a different kind of athlete. He showed on the court that he is a pace changer so fast and aware that he will change the tempo when he steps in the game. T Rob check his birth certificate this kid is 25 right well he looks like it, he is a manchild. Though raw his ceiling is Cathedral. 6 points and 7 rebounds in limited minutes will make him a candidate for increased minutes, these freshme are special. Maybe Getty images will soon have their pictures available.
The Morris Twins
Makieff starting last night raised my brow a bit, he must be ready to take his game to the next level. He was agressive and most importantly throwing down thunder dunks. Marcus came off the bench but was also impressive, if they didnt have numbers you wouldnt of known who was who. Both brothers looked tough Markieff had 12 and Marcus10, it will be a brotherly battle throughout the year to see which Morris is superior.
Reed
The kid is proof hardwork can pay off, his impressive bootcamp landed him a starting role, but I imagine not for long. Reed is an amazing shooter and can give you a 3 when needed but will slip down the roster a bit with Taylor jumping ahead of him, and possibly CJ Henry the verdict is still out on him. Reed hit a nice 3, and also hit one after a foul was called that did not count, he is a role player along with Morningstar when he returns that Championship teams need.
Juenemann
Congrats you Kansas kid on your first basket as a Jayhawk though it wont get in the books. You will see minutes this year in blowouts make the best of them you are the fan favorite.
Relerford and Little
Redshirt fellas, and we will need you greatly next year. You two are very talented but wont get to see the court much. Take advantage of a year off and next year you both will show why you were 4 star players, and be proof that KU has a talent overload.
