Genesee Gets Honored By Region III

Halloween was a good day for GCC Athletics as the Womens Soccer Team knocked off top seeded Herkimer Community College 1-0 to win their first Region III Division III Championship since the early 1980’s. The following day saw three Lady Cougars were selected to the All-Region 1st and 2nd teams and head coach Kelly Gillow took home coach of the year honors.

Forward Chelsea Williams (Brockport, NY) was named to the All-Region 1st Team with a very strong season scoring 18 goals with 11 assists for 47 points, while playing in all 19 games for the Lady Cougars. She currently ranks 7th nationally in scoring.

Forward Jessie Jaszko (Batavia, NY) and Midfielder Dzindzi Asamoah-Wade (Rochester, NY) were named to the All-Region 2nd Team. Jaszko played in all 19 games for the Lady Cougars and ranks 18th nationally in scoring with 14 goals and 7 goals for 35 points while Asamoah-Wade ranks 97th nationally with 4 goals and 7 assists for 15 points over 17 games.

After a rough 1-5-1 start for the Lady Cougars Coach Gillow turned the team around to go 10-3 the rest of the way including big wins over nationally ranked teams Hudson Valley CC, Finger Lakes CC, and Herkimer CC in the Region III Pool A Championship game earning her Region III Division III Coach of the Year honors. Genesee is currently 10-8-1 on the season and will head to Holyoke, MA to face the winner of Region 21 Saturday, November 7th
