Note: The following article is complete speculation as to what illness Brock has. There are no definitive facts as to what he has at this time. However, one must note that this author did "Break the News" FIRST that Lesnar would be out for 3-6 months (or even indefinitely) due to his illness despite the humor inserted in the remainder of the article. It is also noteworthy that many of those who criticized this article are now plagiarizing information contained herein for their own "Breaking News" articles...how ironic!
UFC "insiders" are reporting that Brock Lesnar's "illness" is likely going to result in his "early retirement" from the UFC.
There has been considerable speculation on "what" exactly is this illness Brock suffers from that is allegedly preventing him from training for his UFC match-up with Shane Carwin.
Initial reports were that Lesnar contracted H1N1. When doctors explained to UFC officials that H1N1 should not prevent an otherwise healthy individual from returning to action within 1-2 weeks, Lesnar's camp was very disappointed.
Now we have rumors of Infectious Mononucleosis. There are a few problems with the "Mono theory". First problem is that it would be incredibly rare for a person to make it through high school, junior college, and college without ever being exposed to what is affectionately known as "the kissing disease". Now some may say that Brock may have been unable to score a kiss in all those years, but I will fully endorse that I believe Brock could have scored a few kisses in his teens and early 20's.
The second problem with the Mono Theory is that any physician with half a brain would have run a series of basic lab tests on Brock when he presented with fever and fatigue (one of which being a Mono spot test). The test is 99.9% accurate, and is cheap and simple. I find it very hard to believe that Brock hadn't been tested for Mono up until this point.
"Chickenshititis" is still a strong possibility...but that was already covered in another brilliant article...so no need to expound on that here!
I think the issue at hand now is to presume that (at a minimum) Lesnar will be out for 3-6 months (if not indefinitely). If he has Mono, and has the classic splenomegaly, he cannot participate in any contact sports for many months. If he has Mono (or CMV, quite similar but more severe than Mono), he will be out for 6 months + due to fatigue, etc.
So what do we do with the HW division? Well, I believe Carwin and Velasquez can both beat Brock, so we don't want them to fight each other right away. I would love to see each of these top contenders fight their way through all of Brock's former opponents to prove how easy it is for them to beat them.
Carwin will KO Mir in 30 seconds or less. Same with Herring. Couture may last a minute or two, but that will be it.
In the meantime, Velasquez can beat up Big Nog. From there, perhaps the HW winner of TUF? I could see giving the winner of Velasquez and Big Nog an Interim HW title.
This series could get us through 6 months. By then, we should have a final verdict on Brock. If he comes back, he fights Carwin for the ?vacant HW title. Then after Carwin KO's Brock, we see the real showdown between Carwin and Velasquez.
I see this as the best case scenario for the HW division at this point...
