Last year's outrageously dominant clean sweep by a brilliant Barca side so well coached by a rookie tactician, Josep Guardiola, has deeply influenced world football. In fact, apart from Madrid summer spending spree, it has also created a ripple effect and ushered in a new era in football coaching.

Because it's a copycat world, everybody wants to emulate and replicate a winning model as if there were a one-size-fits-all formula to success. Consequently, nowadays, you only need to be knowledgeable about football to land a big time coaching job on a prestigious franchise like AC Milan or Juventus or a traditional national side like Argentina. The likes of Leonardo, Ciro Ferrara and Diego Maradona are the most striking instances of this new practice.

I think this trend is a slippery slope which, if unfettered, will eventually lead to the demise of professionalism in coaching. Will this trend continue or will it be short-lived? That remains to be seen...
