LaDainian, LaDainian… where have you gone? The most sought after fantasy player that dominated defenses and changed games single handedly has become, well, mediocre.
LaDainian Tomlinson was so wanted in fantasy football people were tanking games at the end of a fantasy season so they could get the first pick in the following years draft. In one of my leagues a guy actually renamed his team “LaDainian Here I Come,” sure enough, he got number 21 the following year. Little did anyone know, that his huge record breaking year may have been the beginning of the end of a rein of dominance. Injuries and depleted blockers have contributed to his inability to be the player he once was, but age is the greatest factor. This goes to show why NFL teams have gone to running backs by committee.
In most cases, running backs playing at a high level in the NFL usually range between three to seven years. Guys like Priest Holmes, Shawn Alexander, and Deuce McAllister were all once dominant football studs, but are barely heard from or talked about anymore. This does not mean that they are no longer wanted, productive, or needed, it just means they can’t do it anymore, and have passed the torch on to a younger version.
