Houston (Oct. 31, 2009) - The Houston Cougars had two players selected by Conference USA as Players of the Week.
Outside linebacker C.J. Cavness was selected on defense, while wide receiver Tyron Carrier was selected for special teams.
Cavness had a career-best game in Houston's 38-15 win over SMU, forcing one fumble, recovering two more fumbles inside Houston’s five-yard line and racking up a career-best 18 tackles.
Carrier, for the second time in his career, ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Against SMU, he took the second half kickoff 92 yards for the score, increasing Houston’s lead to 31-3.
He finished the game with 203 all-purpose yards, totaling four kickoff returns for 159 yards, one punt return for 16 yards and three catches for 28 yards.
This was the sophomore’s second career Special Teams Player of the Week award, with his first award coming on Nov. 17, 2008.
